chatting with chad
Hi.. this post is dedicated to the energetic, charming chap Chad. (who by the way, was our Onsite Application Specialist and just moved out from the company)
In my carrer I have never felt bad when any one moved out or when I moved out, but this change was hard for me to digest. One thing to say, he is a guy with full of surprises. In initial days, our contact is mostly though YM and very occasional onsite call. But whenever we want him, he will be always available on chat, and will be discussing technical points even past 1 o'clock at his time and will be available the next day at 6? and we wonder how this guy can work for at least 16 hours a day? Is he a ghost who never sleeps?
And in those days I (and to my astonishment everyone here) was imagining him as a man in his mid 40s a very bulky and hefty frame with semi bald head... you know the typical onsite guys who visits the Hot Hotter Hottest India in a full formal black suite? But one fine day, he had to come to India to visit us. I remember the day when he came here, he and my Team lead where in one cabin booked for him, and got call from My TL to come there to say "Hi" to this guy. I went there and when I entered, my TL was there and next to him was a slender, athletic guy, exactly looking like a roller blade champ in a typical English teen movie... I was dumbfounded but thought of saying "Where the hell is Chad?" and he smilingly shook hands saying he was chad.
But in the coming days, I have learnt that he was rather a very simple man with lot of energy, fun loving, and carefree (freak-out?) guy. who liked to travel a lot. In fact he went to places like Cambodia, Thailand, Russia etc etc.. to name a few. I was astonished to hear that he went all that places getting a veeeeery long leave of about 1 year and I couldn't imagine myself deviating from my career even for 1 month. He disliked the fancy hotel stay, wanted to come in a bike, tasted the spiciest of Indian foods without hesitation, he even once challenged me to eat a green chilli once after eating that like a bar of chocolate.
Professionally I like his character of no politics, straight forward and constantly challenges himself to stretch his limit and help others in doing the same. He can say anything straight in your face but the same time never failed even one time to truly appreciate the work when we do something good. The quality which every leader should have. And when he said in the conference call, that he is moving out (this time skiing in Canada and visiting Nepal etc) , I could see that sadness in every one's face.
And the thing is, from my team lead to the junior most guy, everyone uttered the same exact words, "It is very hard to find a guy like Chad". And if I want to put it in plain Amerikain "He is one hell of a guy and a very Nice Fellaw". The man I cannot forget in my life.
Good Bye Chad...and All the Best for your future.
